Well it has been a little while since I posted on the When I’m Sixty Four blog. My apologies but a lot has been going on and i feel a lot like a duck on a pond. Above the water not a lot of action but beneath the surface everything is going at a 100 miles an hour.

So since my last post we have been doing a lot around our house and that has slowed down my online activities. The great thing though is that we have now finally had our kitchen, lounge and dinning room floor sanded and covered with a clear natural varnish.

Sounds like a simple easy job, particularly as I had a professional, Jacky who is just a gun do the sanding and sealing. Thought about doing the ob myself but who ever sanded the floor previous to us buying the house demonstrated what a bad job can look like, and after 11 years of renovating and waiting we really wanted to get the best outcome. Good decision by us as it was worth it, the polished Cyprus pine floor with a satin finish is perfect for the area and it now feels like the main part of the house is complete.

What people don’t realise though when they start on a job like this is how much stuff you accumulate in just a few rooms and how bloody heavy some of the big items are to move. We have a giant Red Cedar dinning table I made from a slab that seats 12 people so you can imagine how heavy that is. Then there was a solid cedar cabinet and a book case, the list goes on and then you have all the nic nacks and photo’s, pictures couches …its a big job. Fortunately we had help from some of the family to move stuff out and then a couple my fantastic neighbours helped move stuff back in after a 4 day turn around.

After we moved the furniture out my my wonderfull partner took the dog and headed to her folks place for 3-4 days. The cat & I stayed home and basically had a boy’s bonding session. He the cat, was a bit freaked out when the sanding was done, all his old smells and secret hiding places were gone. Then I had to lock him out of the area for two days while the polyurethane dried ….. not happy.

Even crazier was that I had to climb in and out of his window to access the bedroom and office part of the house that I was staying in while the work was being done. Must have looked a bit like a burglar sneaking in the window to anyone looking from the outside.

Still we all survived and got the job done. All in all …. that and trying to start up a new business has taken pretty well all my time so again apologies for the lack of posts.

I have learned a lesson from this that will hopefully shape my philosophy around the blog and the channel …. if you take on too many challenges at once something has got to give but if you stay motivated you can get back on track. Like I am now. So stay tuned as the new Youtube channel is coming together and IU will continue to blog more often.
